Superior Poly-Epoxy Knife Grade High-Strength Adhesive for Stone Seaming and Laminating

The Superior Poly-Epoxy Adhesive in Knife Grade is a professional-grade stone bonding compound engineered for countertop fabricators, stone installers, and tile contractors working with granite, marble, and other dense natural stone. It combines Polyester and Epoxy resin chemistry into a single formulation, delivering a bond strength that exceeds conventional polyester-only adhesives. Designed for indoor seaming, laminating, and edge bonding, it handles the demands of both residential and commercial stone installation environments.

What separates this adhesive from standard polyester products is the hybrid Polyester/Epoxy chemistry, which produces the toughest bond available in a polyester-format adhesive. The knife-grade, non-sagging paste consistency allows precise application on vertical and horizontal surfaces without slumping, which is critical for maintaining clean seam lines and tight laminations on countertop edges and backsplashes.

Key Features & Benefits

Polyester/Epoxy Hybrid Chemistry

The combination of polyester and epoxy resins in a single formula provides bond strength beyond what conventional polyester adhesives can achieve. For fabricators working with dense materials like black granite or engineered stone, this translates to seams and laminations that hold under daily countertop stress without delaminating or cracking over time.

Knife Grade Non-Sagging Consistency

The paste-grade formulation does not run or sag after application, even on vertical seam surfaces. This gives installers precise control over adhesive placement, reducing cleanup time and ensuring a uniform bond line that finishes cleanly when the excess is removed with a blade or scraper.

Fast Gel Time 4 to 6 Minutes

A gel time of 4 to 6 minutes provides enough open working time to position and align stone pieces accurately before the adhesive sets. For production fabrication environments, this speed supports higher throughput without sacrificing bond quality or requiring extended fixture time.

Full Cure in 25 to 30 Minutes

Complete cure in under 30 minutes allows fabricators to proceed to grinding, polishing, or installation sooner than slower-curing alternatives. In a shop environment, this reduces bottlenecks on the production line and allows same-day turnaround on seaming and lamination steps.

Water Clear Translucent Color

The cured adhesive is water clear and translucent, making it well-suited for lighter-colored stones where a tinted adhesive would show through the material. This is especially relevant for white marbles, light granites, and translucent onyx applications where seam visibility is a concern.

2-Percent to 4-Percent Paste Hardener Mix Ratio

The adjustable hardener ratio from 2% to 4% gives technicians control over working time and cure speed based on ambient temperature and project requirements. A lower hardener percentage extends open time in warm shop conditions, while a higher percentage accelerates cure in cooler environments.

Long Shelf Life

The product carries a 2 to 4 year shelf life when stored properly, making it a reliable stocking item for fabrication shops. Contractors can purchase in larger quantities without concern about product expiration during normal inventory cycles.

Common Applications

Countertop Seaming

The knife-grade consistency and fast gel time make this adhesive the standard choice for seaming granite and stone countertop sections. It holds seam alignment during cure while allowing excess to be scraped cleanly before final finishing.

Edge Laminating

Used to bond edge buildup strips to countertop slabs, the non-sagging formula keeps lamination strips in place without clamps slipping. The strong Poly-Epoxy bond holds up to the mechanical stress of edge profiling and polishing after cure.

Backsplash Installation

The non-sagging paste consistency allows precise application when bonding stone backsplash tiles or slabs to vertical wall surfaces. It holds position without sliding during the cure cycle, eliminating the need for extensive mechanical support.

Stone Crack and Chip Repair

The translucent cure color and smooth paste texture allow fabricators to fill surface chips, hairline cracks, or voids in stone slabs. The cured material accepts grinding and polishing to match the surrounding stone surface.

Stone-to-Stone Bonding

For any application requiring one stone face to be permanently bonded to another including modular installation, monument fabrication, or structural bonding the Poly-Epoxy formula delivers the holding strength required for long-term structural integrity.

Commercial Stone Installation

In commercial environments where stone installations are subject to higher foot traffic, thermal cycling, and mechanical loading, the superior bonding strength of this adhesive provides greater long-term reliability than standard polyester products.

Application Instructions

Surface Preparation

1. Ensure all stone surfaces to be bonded are clean, dry, and free of dust, oils, grease, or existing adhesive residue.
2. For seaming applications, verify that mating edges are properly ground and fitted for tight contact along the full seam length.
3. Work in a well-ventilated indoor area away from open flames, sparks, or ignition sources.

Mixing

1. Dispense the required quantity of Poly-Epoxy paste adhesive onto a clean mixing board or into a mixing vessel.
2. Add paste hardener at a ratio of 2% to 4% by weight or volume depending on desired working time and ambient temperature conditions.
3. Mix thoroughly until the hardener is fully and uniformly incorporated into the base adhesive typically 30 to 60 seconds of thorough blending.
4. Work promptly after mixing as gel time begins at approximately 4 to 6 minutes from initial hardener contact.

Application

1. Apply the mixed adhesive to one or both mating surfaces using a putty knife, spreader, or similar applicator appropriate for the joint or seam geometry.
2. For seams, apply a uniform bead along the length of the joint, then bring surfaces together and align immediately.
3. For laminations, spread adhesive evenly across the bonding face and press the laminate strip into position.
4. Use clamps, seam setters, or temporary supports as needed to maintain alignment during the gel phase.

Finishing

1. Allow the adhesive to reach full cure 25 to 30 minutes under normal indoor conditions.
2. Once cured, remove squeeze-out with a sharp blade, palette knife, or scraper.
3. Grind and polish the seam area as required to match the surrounding stone surface finish.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can this adhesive be used on outdoor stone installations?
A: No. The Superior Poly-Epoxy Knife Grade is formulated specifically for indoor applications. For exterior stonework, a different adhesive designed to withstand UV exposure, moisture cycling, and freeze-thaw conditions should be used.

Q: What is the difference between knife grade and flowing grade polyester adhesives?
A: Knife grade adhesives are non-sagging pastes that hold their position after application they are used for vertical seams, edge laminations, and applications where the adhesive must stay in place before cure. Flowing grades are lower-viscosity liquids used primarily for flat horizontal seams where capillary flow is needed to fill tight joints.

Q: How does the Poly-Epoxy formula compare to standard polyester adhesives for granite?
A: The hybrid Polyester/Epoxy chemistry produces a significantly stronger bond than conventional polyester alone. This is especially important with dense granites and engineered quartz surfaces, which can stress standard polyester bonds over time through thermal expansion and mechanical loading at countertop seams.

Q: How do I adjust the working time to suit my shop conditions?
A: Reduce the hardener percentage toward the 2% end of the range to extend working time in warm conditions, or increase toward 4% to accelerate cure in cooler temperatures. Do not exceed the recommended hardener range, as excess hardener can weaken the cured bond and cause discoloration.

Q: What size should I stock for a mid-volume fabrication shop?
A: A gallon-size container is appropriate for shops seaming and laminating multiple countertops daily. High-volume operations producing 10 or more countertops per day should consider the 5-gallon or Big Box configurations to reduce per-unit cost and minimize packaging waste.

Q: Can this adhesive be used to fill surface chips and cracks in stone?
A: Yes. The water-clear translucent cure color and smooth paste consistency make it suitable for filling minor chips, pits, and cracks in light-colored stones. After cure, the filled area can be ground and polished to match the surrounding surface finish.
